CroAI trained more than 1,600 teachers on artificial intelligence

The Croatian Association for Artificial Intelligence (CroAI) is successfully conducting a series of trainings called “Educate AI,” through which more than 1,600 educational workers, including teachers, professors and librarians, have had the opportunity to learn the basics and the possibilities of applying artificial intelligence in schools. The project, financed through the Thematic Systemic Support of the National Foundation for the Development of Civil Society, was designed as a response to the growing interest in AI in education and the real needs shown by the research conducted among teachers.

CroAI developed the program “AI is Educated” based on research that showed that teachers see artificial intelligence as a potentially useful tool, especially in creating new teaching materials and automating time-consuming administrative tasks. However, they cited the lack of professional support, work overload and important ethical issues related to the application of technology as obstacles. Through the educations “AI educate yourself,” CroAI responds to these challenges and provides teachers with concrete tools, practical examples and expert advice on how to make AI a part of their teaching.

Education throughout Croatia – not only in big cities

Unlike many similar projects that focus on larger centers, CroAI decided to cover smaller places as well. In addition to Zagreb, Split and Osijek, educations have so far been held in cities such as Bjelovar, Slavonski Brod and Karlovac, and in the name of CroAI, we want to bring knowledge about AI technologies to all parts of Croatia. Due to the high level of interest and excellent feedback from teachers, the Association states: “In addition to of the 7 trainings held, by the end of the year we will hold 6 more across the country, so that teachers, regardless of location, have the opportunity to participate in the program and improve their competencies for the future.” The trainings are led by experts in the field of artificial intelligence, such as Ive Botunac from Alfatec, Damir Pavušin from Axians and Ivan Rimac from Barrage, who show through real-life examples how AI can be a useful tool in education.
