Do you want to resume a series? Amazon’s AI shows you a summary up to your last episode

Amazon has launched the beta version of X-Ray Recaps on Prime Video, a new feature powered by Artificial intelligence (Generative AI) that will offer personalized summaries of the series, so that users can remember the key parts of what happened up to what they saw, in a simpler way and without spoiling anything.

The streaming content platform aims to offer users a simple way to stay up to date on what is happening in a series “without wasting time or running the risk of seeing ‘spoilers’.”

In this sense, Amazon has launched the beta version of X-Ray Recaps, a new feature powered by Generative AI with which users can obtain “short and easy” personalized summaries of the parts they have seen of a series, so that they can remember the story before following the rest.

Specifically, as Amazon explained in a statement on its website, with X-Ray Recaps it will offer personalized summaries of complete seasons of series, individual episodes and even fragments of episodes, “all personalized to the exact minute” in the that the series was stopped watching.

This way, whether users have stopped mid-season or missed part of an episode, X-Ray Recaps will create a short summary in text format with key moments, character-related plot points or other details relevant to the content.

As noted by the company, this new feature is based on Prime Video’s existing X-Ray features, designed to help viewers get more information about what they are watching. These functions provide information related to, for example, the actors involved in a specific scene, the soundtrack, or production details.

X-Ray Recaps is powered by Amazon Bedrock, the Amazon Web Services service capable of building and scaling generative AI applications with foundational models, and with custom AI models trained in Amazon SageMaker.

This way, The new feature can analyze multiple video segments, combined with subtitles or dialogue, to generate detailed descriptions of key events, places, moments and conversations. This technology also applies security barriers to ensure that the summaries do not include elements that spoil the rest of the episodes.

To access X-Ray Recaps summaries, users must select this option within the Prime Video details page or during the X-Ray experience that opens when pausing playback of the content. Once the summary option is selected, you must choose between summarizing the entire chapter, summarizing the season or just a fragment.

At the moment, X-Ray Recaps has been released in beta for Fire TV customers in the United States. However, Amazon has noted that this feature will be supported on other devices by the end of this year.
