Take-Two Interactive sells indie games label Private Division

Take-Two Interactive has confirmed the sale of its indie games label Private Division to an undisclosed buyer who has obtained the rights to current and unannounced titles.

Private Division is a game publisher founded by Take-Two Interactive focused on the financing and publishing of ‘indie’ games. Their catalog includes No Rest for the Wicked, Rollerdrome, The Outer Worlds and Kerbal Space Program 2, among others.

This seal, established in 2017, is no longer part of the Take-Two structure as spokesperson Alan Lewis confirmed to The Verge. “We recently made the strategic decision to sell our Private Division label to focus our resources on growing our core and mobile businesses over the long term,” he explained.

The buyer, which Take-Two has not disclosed, acquired the rights to “substantially all outstanding and unpublished titles” of Private Division”, including Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game and the untitled game in the Pokémon franchise known as Project Bloom. Take-Two, however, will continue to support No Rest for the Wicked, which launched in early access for desktop in April.
