Paint and Notepad are renewed with Generative Artificial Intelligence functions

Microsoft has updated the Windows Paint and Notepad applications, in which it has integrated new functions Artificial intelligence (AI) for photo editing and text rewriting, already offered through the Windows Insider channel.

The company has reported through its developer blog that it has begun to implement these Paint and Notepad updates through the Canary and Dev channels in Windows 11 with versions 11.2410.28.0 and 11.2410.15.0, respectively.

Paint, for its part, has released the so-called Generative Fill, a creation tool designed to “perfect the digital art” of users, who will be able to make edits and additions with AI through text commands, maintaining the artistic style of their projects.

To use it, you must click on the ‘Selection’ option in the toolbar and make a rectangular or freestyle selection. Then, choose ‘Generative fill’ from the menu and add the desired description and, finally, click on the ‘Create’ button. This process can be repeated as many times as necessary until a satisfactory result is obtained.

Microsoft has commented that Generative Fill will initially be available on Copilot+ computers with a Snapdragon processor and that, to use it, you must sign in with a Microsoft account.

Paint has also launched Generative Erase, so that the AI fills the empty space left in an image from which an object has been erased so that it appears that it “was never there.” This way, users can try the ‘Add area to delete’ and ‘Reduce area to erase’ buttons.

With this new version of Paint for Windows Insiders, Image Creator also reaches more users, which was launched last year in preview and is now available for Windows 11 users in the United States, Italy, Germany, France, Canada and the United Kingdom. To use it, you need to sign in with your Microsoft account.

As for Notepad, version 11.2410.15.0 of the application allows you to use AI to rephrase sentences, adjust the tone and modify the length of the content according to user preferences. To begin, you must select the text and choose the ‘Rewrite’ option and, in this case, the ‘Retry’ option is also offered to generate additional versions.

On the other hand, Microsoft has managed to improve the startup performance of the application, so that with this update “most users will see an improvement” when starting the service “of more than 35 percent” and up to a 55 percent for some users.
