China has taken a step forward in the development of energy weapons with the creation of an experimental system that combines microwaves to produce a powerful energy beam. The invention is reminiscent of the colossal laser weapon of the “Death Star” from the ‘Star Wars’ franchise.
The technology, although still in the experimental phase, uses several precisely synchronized microwave streams to concentrate energy on a single target.
According to the South China Morning Post, this new type of energy weapon uses electromagnetic waves with advanced timing technology, which increases power output for high-precision attacks. Although on a much smaller scale than George Lucas’ famous weapon from the universe, this system uses several microwave-emitting vehicles located in different locations, which converge their beams to attack a single target.
Chinese scientists have carried out experimental tests with this technology in the west of the country, using a system of seven transmitter vehicles. These transmitters must achieve extreme precision in time and space: the position error margins are millimeters, and the temporal synchronization between them does not exceed 170 picoseconds: They are more precise than atomic clocks.
Additionally, tests have shown that this system is capable of jamming GPS and other satellite signals, suggesting its potential for use in military exercises and training. To achieve this precise synchronization, the researchers have connected the devices through optical fibers, achieving a temporal precision essential for the effectiveness of the system.
Although the destructive potential of this weapon is still under development, China is making progress in building a technological arsenal that could mark a new era in the field of defense and electronic warfare.
