Google donates 2 million soles to specialize Peruvians in artificial intelligence tools

Google Peru announced initiatives to contribute to innovation, technology and culture at the national level, within the framework of its commitment to promote the activities of the APEC. He continues to support education and cultural development in the country.

The technology giant, through Google.org, Google’s philanthropic arm, will provide a donation of 2 million soles to Kodea, a non-profit organization that works committed to promoting digital skills and, together with its local partner Empresarios por Education, will implement a program that seeks to empower more than 50,000 educators and students from public schools in vulnerable areas with tools for their training in artificial intelligence. It will provide resources to continue promoting the development of this technology in all sectors.

“Today, teaching about and with artificial intelligence in schools is no longer an option, but a necessity in a context where developing digital skills is key. In the world there are already 47 countries incorporating Computer Science into their educational systems, given that technological knowledge empowers future generations, promoting innovation, creativity and critical thinking, it is important then that just as students learn about how the human body works, they must also understand the logic behind technology and AI to prepare young people to understand and be able to shape the world in which they will have to operate.”said Monica Retamal, executive director of the Kodea Foundation, during an exclusive event attended by El Comercio.

“The 2024 digital activity index in Peru shows worrying figures: while more than 60% of those who use technology do so to communicate and entertain themselves, only 13% do so to educate themselves. At Entrepreneurs for Education we seek to promote quality education in socio-emotional topics, mathematics, reading comprehension, science and digital literacy, and we are honored to be part of this AI project together with Kodea. This will allow us to impact 50,000 public school students and teachers in at least three regions, extending the frontiers of learning and offering better development opportunities.”explained Luciana Puente, General Manager of ExE.

Technological ally in “APEC Peru Hackathon”

Google has become an innovation partner of the “APEC Peru Hackathon” seeking to strengthen the experiential learning of the young people who participate by creating innovative solutions to real problems in technology. To this end, Google has made available to 200 participating developers free access to the “Google Cloud Arcade” platform, which will allow them to learn and develop their cloud skills in a fun and effective way.

“At Google, we work to make technology benefit everyone. From support through Google.org to train in AI and the preservation of Peruvian history in Google Arts & Culture, to our support for the APEC hackathon, our initiatives seek to promote inclusion and digital development of the country. “We believe in the potential of Peru and we will continue working so that technology is an engine of progress for everyone,” said Edgardo Frías, general director of Google Peru.
