Google is implementing two new real-time protection features, which are scam detection on the Pixel, with which it searches protect users from fraud, and Google Play Protect real-time threat detection, which restricts the installation of malware and dangerous applications.
Google Play Protect is a native Android security application belonging to Google’s own application store, which analyzes these to protect the device from ‘malware’ and offers protection while browsing.
Google has recognized that User security “is the basis of everything“what he does in the company and that he has the mission “to make technology useful for everyone”, which means that he must create functions that protect them and maintain their privacy, as he has indicated on his website.
To do this, it has presented two real-time protection functions, such as the detection of scams and fraud on Pixel terminals and the detection of Google Play Protect threats, which issues alerts in real time to avoid ‘malware’ and dangerous applications.
Regarding the first, he recalled that the Scammers often prefer calls favorites to rob their victims and that they become more and more “more sophisticated, harmful and difficult to identify“, which is why it has developed Scam Detection.
The tool, designed with privacy in mind and disabled by default, offers real-time protection right on the device and uses AI to detect conversation patterns commonly associated with scams.
In this sense, he has indicated that it is Gemini Nano the model that powers this tool on devices Pixel 9 and that users with Pixel 6 and later terminals can also use Scam Detection thanks to other self-developed machine learning models.
The technology company has also said that this model processes the information locally, which means that no audio or its transcription is stored. It is also not sent to Google servers nor can it be retrieved after the call.
At the moment, this feature has been made available to English-speaking Google Phone public beta testers in the United States with Pixel 6 and later models. Soon will come to Android devices.
The other function announced is the one that sends alerts to users to protect them in real time against ‘malware’ and illegitimate applications thanks to Play Protect, which analyzes behavioral signals related to the use of confidential permissions and interactions with other services.
By detecting threats in real time, this tool can find rogue apps “who try harder than usual to hide their behavior or remain inactive for a period of time before engaging in suspicious activity,” as Google has stressed.
In its deployment, the threat detection system will focus on the so-called ‘stalkerware’, code that may collect personal data for monitoring purposes without the consent or knowledge of the users. However, the brand hopes to expand the detection to other types of harmful apps in the future.
Likewise, this solution, already available in Pixel 6 and later terminals (it will arrive for the rest of the manufacturers in the coming months) also runs on the device, in a way that preserves the privacy of users through Private Compute Core.
