One of the longest-running and most influential franchises in the gaming world is Castlevaniasetting the course not only for many 2D games, but also for the horror genre for many generations by putting us on an adventure through gothic castles and dark dungeons on a mission to destroy Dracula.
This part of video game history is now available to everyone (those with a PC) now that Epic Games is offering the “Castlevania Anniversary Collection” title for free, a collection of games that includes the original Castlevania as well as several of its aftermath.
Of particular interest to the writer of this note is “Super Castlevania IV”, the first installment of the franchise on the then-new Super Nintendo and still one of the best titles to grace that system. Additionally, The collection also contains “Kid Dracula,” a game in the style of “Super Mario Bros.” which to date had not left Japan.
These are all the games in the collection:
- Castlevania
- Castlevania II Simon’s Quest
- Castlevania III Dracula’s Curse
- Super Castlevania IV
- Castlevania The Adventure
- Castlevania II Belmont’s Revenge
- Castlevania Bloodlines
- Kid Dracula
- History of Castlevania
To get the games you just have to have an Epic Games account and go to the store, look for the free games section and find “Castlevania Anniversary Collection” (you can also follow this link). Then you just have to choose the Get option and add it to your game library.
In addition to the “Castlevania Anniversary Collection,” this week Epic Games is offering the game “Snakebird Complete,” a puzzle game intended for those looking for a more cerebral activity for entertainment. Both will be free until November 21.
