After the female lion failed to attack the rhino, she left, leaving the male as the target of her enemy’s anger.
Tour guide Jordan Davidson was surprised to witness a clash between a lion and a rhino at the Sanbona nature reserve in South Africa, according to Latest Sightings. Three lions about 5 years old, including 2 females and a male, rest at noon. However, the peaceful moment was broken by a rhinoceros wandering around looking for fresh grass.
Lions understand their limitations, even with three of them, taking down a great white rhino is still fraught with risk. Therefore, tourists on the safari were very excited to see the rhino go straight to where the lion was lying. A rhino’s eyesight is not good, so it most likely couldn’t see anything far away, but the scent of the lions was suspicious to the rhino, so it continued to scout. Finally, the rhinos got so close that one of the lionesses appeared uncomfortable. It ran away and at this point, the rhino saw clearly so he switched to a defensive position.
The remaining lioness knows how to take advantage of the opportunity better. As soon as the rhinoceros chases its sister, it prepares to pounce on its prey and waits for the right opportunity. The lion didn’t have to wait long because the rhino quickly decided to circle back. After aiming for the rhino’s hips, the lioness realized she had chosen too strong a prey. It immediately let go and dodged away, leaving the irritated rhino to turn away. At this time, both female lions had disappeared, leaving only the male lion blocking the rhino’s path. The male lion jumped up as soon as the rhino charged. Both of the rhino’s attacks nearly hit it. The male lion quickly ran straight into the bushes to escape.
African lion (Panthera leo) lives mainly in the sub-Saharan region. They are the only cat species in the world that lives in groups and are the second largest in size in the Cat family, only surpassed by tigers. Adult African lions weigh about 120 – 190 kg, with a body length of 1.4 – 2 m excluding the tail. Male lions protect the territory of the pride, while females are the main hunters. Their prey includes antelopes, zebras and some other mammals.
