Using styrofoam boxes, cardboard, areca leaves… students from Hanoi and Quang Nam created a model to help make history an attractive subject, winning high prizes at the national Youth Creativity competition.

The 2024 National Youth and Children’s Creativity Contest, which was just awarded on November 2, has many winning projects because of useful inventions for learning history.

Among this group of students, Cau Giay Secondary School (Hanoi) won a special prize with a model of the Cu Chi tunnels. Authors Luu Bao Chau, Nguyen Duy Kien, Nguyen Lam Uyen, Le Ngoc Khai (9th grade), Vy Nguyen Thanh Mai (8th grade) use plaster, cardboard and other recycled, environmentally friendly materials. school to make tunnel models.

The group created a cross-section with 5 sides illustrating details on the ground and the tunnel, helping visitors visualize the entire life of Cu Chi’s soldiers and people, as well as the fierce nature of the resistance war against Cu Chi. France and anti-America. Using the model, students can participate in a learning experience tour to explore the Cu Chi Tunnels without having to go there.

Coming from Quang Nam, Vo Thi Thuy Tien, class 5A, Primary School No. 1, Duy Nghia, Duy Xuyen won first prize with the Victory cave model on Bach Dang River. Use areca leaves to make boats, foam boxes, fish tank pumps, pieces of foam to pretend to be rocky mountains, water valves, sticks to make stakes, glue, accessories… the model recreates the historical battle of yesteryear.

Thuy Tien said that the purpose of making the model is to help students love History more, always remember the victories of previous generations, especially understand military art based on the ebb and flow of tides. Let the enemy army fall into the stakes.

To use the model to illustrate the lesson, the teacher needs to pour water into the battle ground so that the water covers the pump at the bottom. When the lecture reached the part “hearing the news that the Southern Han army was coming to invade our country, Ngo Quyen ordered the army and people to carve sharp stakes and stick them in the Bach Dang River” – the teacher illustrated by taking a toothpick and sticking it into the river bed.
