Report: Apple is in the final stages of developing Air Tag 2 – this is what is expected

Apple is expected to launch the second generation of the AirTag in the middle of next year. According to a report, the general design of the device will remain similar to the original model, but will include three major improvements: improved range, a more advanced wireless chip, and improvements in privacy security.

The first AirTag was launched in April 2021 after years of rumors and leaks. In fact, already in 2019, references to a device with the code name “B389” were discovered in the iOS 13 system, and the leaks surrounding the product aroused great interest. The AirTag was developed as a small, round device that enables the tracking of items such as keys, bags, wallets and more, using Apple’s “Find My” system. The device uses UWB (Ultra-Wideband) technology for accurate location, and allows users to receive precise guidance for the location of the device using a compatible iPhone.

According to the report of the “Bloomberg” website, the new model of the AirTag, known by the code name “B589”, is in an advanced stage of production tests and is expected to include significant improvements. The improved range and updated wireless chip should offer better performance, which could improve the user experience and enable more efficient tracking. However, one of the most interesting aspects of the new model is the emphasis on improving user privacy.

Since the launch of the first model, there have been cases where AirTag was used for illegal purposes, such as unauthorized tracking of people. Some users have even modified the device so that it disables its integrated speaker, which makes it difficult to detect tracking. According to the reports, Apple has set itself a goal to deal with the problem, and is expected to introduce mechanisms in the new model that will strengthen the protection of user privacy and prevent misuse.

This is a necessary upgrade of AirTag, especially in light of the criticisms that have been voiced in recent years regarding the use of AirTag for problematic needs. It is not yet clear how the improved protection will be implemented, but the changes may include a combination of software and physical measures that will limit the possibility of modifying the device or using it without the owner’s knowledge.

The AirTag is one of Apple’s most prominent products in the “Internet of Things” (IoT) field and has been very successful among users. However, the criticisms about privacy and other concerns have presented Apple with a major challenge. If the reports do come true, the new model may improve confidence in the product and bring it into wider use. Based on the current pace of development, it looks like Apple will be on schedule and launch AirTag 2 in mid-2025.
