Apple says goodbye to the Lightning to ‘jack’ adapter: the accessory that marked an era is no longer sold

Apple has begun to discontinue sales of the Lightning to 3.5 millimeter jack port adapter for connecting headphones, so users who do not have this accessory will have to resort to another type of headphones to be able to use them with their iPhone.

Those from Cupertino launched the Lightning to jack port adapter in 2016 with the iPhone 7, the first device in which the company decided to eliminate the jack port to leave exclusively a Lightning input. Likewise, this adapter was also included for free with the following iPhone models presented by the company, such as the iPhone 8 series and the iPhone X.

Later, after the launch of the iPhone XS model, Apple stopped offering it for free with the purchase of the smartphone and put it on sale in its online store.

Now, eight years later, Apple has begun to cease sales of the Lightning to jack port adapter, which is no longer available for purchase in online stores in the United States and other countries globally.

This has been reported by the specialized media MacRumors, who has specified that, when trying to buy the adapter through Apple’s official website, an “out of stock” message appears and does not allow its purchase.

For the moment, the jack port adapter continues to be available in the Apple store for France, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. However, from the aforementioned media they have indicated that it is expected that the complement can only be purchased until stocks run out.

In this way, users who do not have this Lightning adapter will have to use another method to connect the headphones, such as using wireless headphones and via Bluetooth. Likewise, you can also use headphones with a wired connection but with a Lightning output, instead of a 3.5mm jack.

It must be taken into account that, currently, the only iPhone models that Apple sells with a Ligthning port are those of the iPhone 14 and iPhone SE series since, starting with the iPhone 15 series, they are equipped with USB-C ports . Therefore, with the launch of new updated devices, the use of the Lightning to jack port adapter is increasingly less required. In addition, the company continues to sell a USB-C to 3.5mm jack port adapter.
