LG Spain announces lifetime warranty on its appliances and reaffirms its commitment to sustainability

LG Spain has launched a lifetime warranty on its appliances, an initiative born from the conviction that “the most sustainable product is the one that lasts a lifetime”, which not only translates into a benefit for consumers’ pockets. , but also for the future of the planet.

The technology company has stressed that it is committed to the durability of the products it manufactures from design and manufacturing to the end of their useful life, and that it even proposes solutions to reduce the emissions generated by their transportation, with a self-diagnosis service which avoids unnecessary trips to the repair center.

Its 360º vision of sustainability is the result of more than 25 years of work in which it has always sought to combine energy efficiency and durability. This was demonstrated already in 1998, with the launch of the first washing machine with the Direct Drive motor, with ten years warranty; or in 2001, with the first refrigerator Linear Compressor.

Already in 2016, Centum washing machine motors allowed LG extend warranties to 20 years, while a year later the dual pump dryer was launched on the market, which protects fabrics and prevents them from shrinking. Also in 2017, the glass panel refrigerator was introduced LG Instaview, focused on energy savings.

During this trajectory, the Spanish subsidiary has also included Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the ThinQ ecosystem in its products, thanks to which it can offer a specific laundry washing program that reduces the release of microplastics by 70 percent.

To strengthen its commitment to sustainability, LG Spain has now announced lifetime guarantees on household appliances, an initiative that, together with quality after-sales service, is aligned with the ‘Right to repair’ promoted by the European Union (EU).

This is insurance that triples the average useful life of household appliances and covers refrigerator compressors and washing machine motors. This proposal is also related to the ‘Life’s Good’ philosophy of LG, which considers that “the most sustainable product is the one that lasts a lifetime”, in the words of the general director of Marketing of LG Spain, Miguel Ángel Fernández.

For this reason, LG Spain encourages repair over replacement at a historical moment in which waste generation is growingbecause technology advances by leaps and bounds and more and more electronic equipment is used in different areas.

According to data from the company’s Technical Service and Customer Care, which has been announced by the director of this division at LG Spain, Sergio Novajarque, the brand’s customers They choose repair over replacement three out of four times. As for washing machines, only 0.2 percent of incidents are related to the Direct Drive technology of the motor, which, according to the brand, demonstrates its “effort to offer the most durable products.”

The person responsible for Institutional Relations and Projects at ECOTIC, Raquel Ayora, who collaborates with LG in the management of electronic waste, recalled that Europe is at the forefront of consumption and that household appliances “have a very important weight” in the generation of this waste.

“Of the 306,000 tons of waste electrical and electronic equipment that were collected in Spain in 2023 at the domestic level, 252,000 correspond to refrigerators and large appliances, such as washing machines and dryers,” accounting for 82 percent of the total.

SUSTAINABILITY 2.0

Along with technological innovations developed in the field of efficiency, such as the lifetime warranty, LG has an altruistic program of Sustainability 2.0 with which it fights against climate change and seeks to recover the plant, animal and marine environment.

In addition to promoting what the CEO and president of LG Spain, Jaime de Jaraíz, has called ‘Sustainability 1.0’, “which consists of reducing environmental impact and recycling”, the company works on this sustainable initiative with collaborators such as Ecomar Foundation and your project Smart Green Seas with Posidonia Action.

The president of this foundation, Theresa Zabell, has clarified that its commitment “is to educate so that society becomes aware that it has to be part of the solution to the problem” and that, in this sense, it has found a link as a brand like LG because ““raises consciences to mobilize society.”

Jaraíz, for his part, has stressed the importance of collective action to address the climate crisis and has insisted that “The responsibility cannot fall solely on institutions and companiesbut must be extended to society through individual actions.”
