Brain chips to allow paraplegics to move. Neuralink tests begin

Neuralink, the neurotechnology company founded in 2016 by the tycoon Elon Musk, has announced that it has received from the US authorities authorization to test a technology that enables paraplegic people to control a robotic arm with your mind. “This is an important first step toward regaining not only digital freedom, but physical freedom as well,” the company said in a statement.

On January 29, the company announced that it had implanted its first brain chip in a human, nine months after the Food and Drug Administration gave the green light to begin human trials. Just a week ago Neuralink received approval to launch the first trial of its brain implants in Canada.

The trial was opened to people with tetraplegia caused by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or cervical spinal cord injury.
