Like Apple, Xiaomi designs its own cell phone processors

Xiaomi is working on its own processors, with which it seeks to reduce dependence on foreign manufacturers and whose mass production will begin next year to power its future smartphones.

The technology firm has Qualcomm as one of its main suppliers of processors for the smartphones it manufactures, and even works with this American company to optimize them and adapt them to its needs. Xiaomi also works with MediaTek, which in this case is based in Taiwan.

However, I would be looking for a way to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers, an objective that the Chinese authorities also promote, and, therefore, it would have begun to invest in its own processors, as Google has already done, with Tensor, and Apple, with Apple Silicon.

Mass production of Xiaomi’s own designed processors will begin in 2025, as sources familiar with this matter have told Bloomberg, which is currently part of a private corporate plan.

Although they are expected to drive future smartphones, work on its own processors would also help the technology company improve the rest of the products it manufactures, including electric vehicles.
