Men’s sexual desires and testosterone levels do not go hand in hand

Men’s perceived sexual desire is unrelated to daily testosterone levels. This is what is published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B research.

An international group of researchers thus questions the common belief that testosterone, called the male hormone, regulates the variation in people’s sexual desire. According to this concept, men feel stronger sexual desire when their testosterone levels rise.

However, this has only been achieved little direct displaywhen variation in natural testosterone production among individuals has been linked to changes in a person’s sexual desire, the researchers write in a publication of the British Academy of Sciences.

Still, testosterone can be prescribed as a treatment if a man suffers from a lack of sexual desire – even when testosterone deficiency has not been diagnosed, the authors of the study point out.

Group recruited 41 male volunteers for his study. Saliva samples were collected from them for a month, in addition to which the men wrote down observations related to sexual desire and mating more broadly. 759 of these were collected.

“We found no evidence of a significant, positive relationship between testosterone and desire,” report researchers from the University of California, State University of New York, University of Chicago, and the Polish National Research Institute.

Boys get male characteristics during puberty due to the effect of testosterone. The genitals grow, the voice lowers and hair grows. Testosterone also plays an important role in mating and reproduction.

Jo based on previous studies, the idea has arisen that an increase in testosterone levels is related to perceived sexual desire more in situations where people interact with potential romantic partners.

Starting a relationship can lead to the production of lower testosterone levels, and fathers also have lower testosterone levels than childless men, according to a study on the topic a meta-analysis i.e. summary survey from 2019.

Preliminary support for these ideas was also found in a recent study.

On average, single men had higher testosterone levels than men in relationships.

Additionally, on days when single men’s testosterone levels were higher than average for their own levels, they experienced more interest in interacting with potential partners.

Findings suggest, according to the researchers, that when a certain minimum threshold in testosterone level has been reached, amounts exceeding it do not increase sexual desire.
