Free ChatGPT on Whatsapp: here’s how to use it

ChatGPT arrives on Whatsapp. Just save the number 1-800-242-8478 in your address book and you can chat with OpenAI’s artificial intelligence, trained on a huge amount of texts to respond naturally to a wide range of questions.

The novelty was presented on the occasion of the tenth day of the “12 days of OpenAI”, the initiative in which new artificial intelligence models will be presented during the Christmas period.

The new service, available on the well-known Meta instant messaging app, aims to make the use of the ChatGPT chatbot more accessible and broaden the user base. In fact, it is a free service for which it is not necessary to have an OpenAI account and a monthly subscription.

The San Francisco company, which launched ChatGPT two years ago, underlined that the service on Whatsapp is still in an experimental phase, therefore has limits.
The first is that it can only receive text messages and not voice messages and only give written responses. In the United States, however, it is already possible to make voice calls to ChatGPT via the cellular network.
The second limitation concerns the time span of knowledge that ChatGPT has available and can draw from. When asking about ChatGPT itself the response was: “My knowledge stops at January 2022. This means that all the information and events I am aware of are up to date up to that date. I have no access to events, developments or news that happened after January 2022.”
Another limit, to be checked, is the limited number of questions that can be asked per day on Whatsapp. To our question ChatGPT replied: “No, there is no specific limit to the number of messages you can write to me on this platform! You can send as many messages as you want, ask as many questions as you want and interact with me without worrying about restrictions on the number of messages per day.”
