The USB-C charger will be the only one allowed in the EU starting this Saturday

All chargers for mobile phones, tablets, cameras, headphones, speakers or portable game consoles, among other devices, must be USB type C mandatory in the countries of the European Union (EU) from this Saturday, December 28.

Directive 2022/2380 of the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union establishes that Member States must use this format as a universal charger in portable equipment, with computers and smartwatches being an exception for the moment.

Laptops have a longer period of time to adapt to this new regulation, which has been set until April 28, 2026. Likewise, the standard exempts smart watches and bracelets from the mandatory adoption of USB type C. activity, due to its size and conditions of use.

The regulations, which come into force this Saturday, December 28, require manufacturers of smartphones – including iPhone -, tablets, digital cameras, headphones and keyboards, among others, to have their products compatible with USB-C in the EU.

This European regulation seeks the interoperability of charging systems between devices and the reducing electronic wastesome advantages to which are added cost savings.
