Microsoft has confirmed that a bug in Windows 11 (version 24H2) does not allow some users to install security updates, specifically those who have used physical media to install the operating system.
This bug does not affect computers that received previous security patches through the Windows Update download platform or the Microsoft Update Catalog website.
This is because the error has been registered by users who have used physical drives, such as USB or CD, to download the latest version of the operating system, as the company has specified in a statement.
The versions embedded in these media have security updates released between October 8 and December 12, which block the installation of more recent Windows security patches.
The company has finally commented that, while looking for solutions and to avoid problems, it is advisable not to install this version of the operating system through these units. Instead, it is best to opt for the Windows 11 24H2 version that includes the December 2024 monthly update, released on December 10 of this year; or later.
