A Chinese company announced plans to develop the world’s most powerful terrestrial wind turbine. Windey Energy will create the world’s first 16MW super turbine. Windey shared that the project aims to strengthen large wind turbine research and development capabilities, promote technological achievements in onshore wind power and support grid integration. Focusing on breakthroughs in turbine design, blade technology and stability control, the project will develop a 16 MW prototype with independent intellectual property rights, encouraging the efficient use of terrestrial wind resources .
Based in Hangzhou, Windey achieved a milestone in manufacturing one of the first wind turbines connected to China’s power grid five decades ago. With 4,000 employees and a team of 700 research and development engineers, the company possesses highly qualified human resources to carry out projects.
Recently, Windey installed the first wind turbine at the 150MW Osakarovka project, the largest capacity wind power project in Central Asia. Engineers used a heavy crane to lift the 160-ton rotor to a height of 120 m and install it with the axle rod. Including 21 WD200-7700IW turbines, this project will produce 223 million kWh of clean energy annually by December 2025, helping to reduce coal burning by more than 70,000 tons.
The company is also developing a new generation of super-large wind turbines for the Gobi desert, with a capacity of 10 to 15 MW. Such turbines will be equipped with super large blades made of carbon-glass material developed by Windey, helping to reduce weight by 15%, increase efficiency by 10% and increase electricity production by 15%.
Windey’s turbine will use high-performance coatings, high-tightness designs, cooling and anti-condensation systems and many other advanced technologies to increase durability in harsh environments such as extreme cold conditions. , high temperatures and dust storms. The turbine also has a convenient modular design to accommodate land transportation and a blade-by-blade lift method, thereby significantly reducing construction costs, according to Windey.
