The Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations said that Vietnam plays an increasingly important role in shaping the future of artificial intelligence, a field that has a profound impact on the global economy and social structure.
Information Mr. Amandeep Singh Gill, Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, spoke at the international conference “Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence Governance” held in Hanoi on the afternoon of January 5. The dialogue is organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the United Nations in Vietnam. The event is held in the context of UN agencies working closely with the Government, providing policy analysis, technical advice and initiatives on the effective use of artificial intelligence (AI). ethically and support the design of safeguards in Vietnam’s digital public infrastructure.
Emphasizing Vietnam’s important role in building global rules on AI, Mr. Amandeep Singh Gill said that the future of AI should not be decided by a few countries. “The United Nations is a platform for Vietnam to contribute ideas to building global rules for AI,” he said.
According to Mr. Gill, participating in global initiatives not only helps Vietnam learn from developed countries but is also an opportunity to share experiences and initiatives on AI governance processes. “Establishing a global network on AI energy construction will create opportunities for Vietnam to contribute and benefit the world’s common resources.”
Vietnam is promoting international cooperation initiatives in the field of AI, not only in policy development but also in global capacity building. According to Mr. Gill’s recommendations, one of the important solutions is to establish a global network to build capacity in the field of modern AI. He shared: “Building a global network for capacity development will create opportunities for countries, including Vietnam, to contribute and benefit common resources and understanding.” This is not only an opportunity for Vietnam to share experiences but also helps Vietnam absorb advances and lessons from other countries.
Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Duy affirmed that Vietnam is committed to becoming an active member in the international community of science and technology, especially AI. “Vietnam focuses on developing the country through science and technology, not only applying AI but also researching its activities for the future of humans,” Mr. Duy shared.
Although AI brings great resources in economic growth and improving labor capacity, Vietnam also faces problems such as imbalance in access to technology, invasion of privacy, or the risk of information manipulation. Faced with that risk, Mr. Duy said Vietnam is cooperating with international organizations such as UNESCO and Australia to develop principles for AI development. This helps Vietnam promote a sustainable AI ecosystem, focused on equitable technology development, protecting privacy and minimizing the risks of information manipulation.
According to him, Vietnam’s participation not only helps learn from other countries but also creates opportunities for domestic research to participate in international initiatives and events. “Participating in these communities helps us learn new concepts and apply them to what is being done in Vietnam,” Deputy Minister Duy said.
