Big change on Facebook, Zuckerberg decided to shut down fact checkers: ‘They are too biased’

Mark Zuckerberg announced drastic changes in the content review rules on Meta and Instagram. He published a video in which he revealed that he would replace fact checkers with notes written by users. A similar system is used by Musk’s X.

– We are looking forward to this and our goal is to reduce the number of errors – said Zuckerberg.

According to Zuckerberg, fact checkers or fact-checking teams were too politically biased and destroyed more trust than they created.

Zuckerberg admitted that the new policy represents a certain compromise.

– This means that we will catch less problematic content, but we will also drastically reduce the number of innocent posts and accounts that are removed by mistake – he said.

Critics, including the Real Facebook Oversight Board, have warned that these changes represent a “departure from a reasonable and safe approach to content moderation” and call them “political pandering,” reports NBC News.

This dramatic change marks a significant shift in Meta’s anti-disinformation strategy, which began in 2016 in response to allegations of foreign interference in US elections. Thus, Meta joins the trend started by Elon Musk after taking over X, putting more emphasis on freedom of expression at the expense of machine content control.
