Nvidia presents its new chips and bets on AI to train robots and cars

The executive director of NvidiaJensen Huang, presented a new range of video game chips on stage at the Ultra Arena in Las Vegas and outlined one of the company’s new objectives: to make the artificial intelligence (AI) improve robots and cars.

The new gaming chips use Nvidia’s “Blackwell” AI technology to deliver hyper-realistic graphics, which manage to reproduce almost perfectly everything from small details in objects and textiles to human faces.

The chips, called RTX 50, They will go on sale between January and February with a price that fluctuates between $549 and $1,999.

Huang said today that his $549 mid-range gaming chips will be the same as the company’s previous flagship chip – the RTX 4090 which sells for $1,600 -, news that drew loud applause from the 14,000 attendees.

A future full of intelligent robots

“We think the era of robotics is around the corner,” said Huang, who dressed in his usual uniform, black clothes and a leather jacket.

In that sense, the CEO said that his company has developed Cosmos – an AI model that generates realistic videos that can be used to train robots and autonomous vehicles in a cheaper way. to “democratize physical AI and make general robotics available to all developers.”

Huang explained that Cosmos was trained with 20 million hours of video and that the models can help robots and cars understand “the physical world.”

However, he warned that Cosmos will need much more data and announced that the models will be available under an open model license to accelerate the work of the robotics and autonomous vehicle community.

The CEO also opted for a future full of autonomous vehicles and announced that Toyota will use its technology to boost advanced driver assistance in several modelsbut did not give details about the models.

Lastly, the chipmaker announced a $3,000 personal AI supercomputer called Digits that is powered by its new GB10 Grace Blackwell superchip.

Nvidia is hot on Apple’s heels on Wall Street

Last year Nvidia shares rose more than 170% and this Monday Nvidia closed at an all-time high thanks to demand for AI chips.

Shares rose 3.43% to $149.43 today surpassing the previous closing high of $148.88 set last November and making the semiconductor company the second most valuable public company in the world, behind Apple.
