American company Rictor introduced a new flying car model called Skyrider X1, promising to fly commuters to escape congested roads. A design version of the car is being displayed at the CES 2025 consumer electronics exhibition, taking place in Las Vegas from January 7 – 10. Rictor currently has an electric motorbike model on the market called Rictor K1.

Skyrider X1 is equipped with an 8-blade propeller system to ensure stability and redundancy. The vehicle has a maximum flight speed of 100 km/h and a maximum flight time of 40 minutes, but this depends on the configuration. The X1 SL model with a 10.5 kWh battery can fly for 25 minutes, while the X1 SX model with a larger, 21 kWh battery can fly for 40 minutes.

Rictor said the Skyrider The vehicle also adapts to the weather and environment in real time, automatically adjusting altitude, speed and direction to ensure efficient and safe travel.

Safety is a top factor in the design of the Skyrider X1, according to Rictor. The vehicle will have a sealed cabin and a three-layer redundant control system. It will also have a manual control option for pilots who want direct operation, including joystick functionality. The Skyrider X1 can land safely even if one engine fails, and is equipped with an emergency parachute for bad situations.

Rictor plans to ship the Skyrider X1 next year with a selling price of 60,000 USD. The company envisions that in the near future, personal flights will no longer be a distant dream but become a reality.

However, Rictor’s goal seems very challenging. Last year, flying taxi company Volocopter failed to obtain certification to carry passengers during the 2024 Paris Olympics. Previously, Volocopter planned to operate manned flying taxis on predetermined routes, but eventually filed for bankruptcy. product. Personal autonomous and semi-autonomous 4-rotor flying vehicles are unlikely to appear in urban skies in the near future.
