Super water-saving mobile aeroponic farm

At the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Jordan Midbar introduced an innovative new approach to indoor growing, using self-inflating modules that leverage aeroponics to grow crops faster with unprecedented efficiency, Interesting Engineering reported on January 9. By deploying a micro-fog aeroponics system, AirFarm reduces water use by up to 99% compared to traditional agriculture, helping to revolutionize farming in water-scarce and urban areas.

The mobile modules are not only 75% lighter than conventional containers, but are also designed for quick installation, taking only about half a day. AirFarm’s efficient design also aids in transportation, allowing 10 units to be placed in a single container, cutting the need for tow trucks.

Playing a key role in the self-inflating farm design is the advanced micro-fog aeroponic system. By delivering nutrients through a fine mist sprayed directly to the roots, the system optimizes plant growth while minimizing resource use. Compared to hydroponic systems, AirFarm’s system uses 90% less water and consumes 60% less fertilizer, completely eliminating pesticides. The method also supports a variety of crops from leafy greens to root vegetables like potatoes and carrots, maximizing yield while still ensuring sustainability.

AirFarm simplifies agriculture with an integrated smart farm system. The system comes with a user-friendly app that provides real-time monitoring and control of essential growing factors such as pH, temperature, humidity and vapor pressure. The intuitive control panel and automation feature allow the user to input desired values, ensuring optimal growing conditions are maintained with minimal effort. A data-driven approach not only boosts productivity but also makes farming more efficient and predictable.

Available in 3 – 6 m sizes, AirFarm modules meet a variety of needs, including education, research applications and commercial farms. The 6 m version fits in a standard container, making it ideal for large-scale operations. Midbar has successfully deployed AirFarm inflatable farms in countries such as the UAE, Japan and Jordan, demonstrating its ability to strengthen food security and adapt to a variety of climates. Next, they are planning to develop vertical farms with larger systems that use less energy.
