Delta Airline unveils the innovations: artificial intelligence and drones

Your flight in the near future is going to change: The American airline Delta presented its new developments at the technology exhibition CES in Las Vegas. The “Book” hall, one of the most impressive in the gambling city, hosted the company’s presentation in a breathtaking multimedia show on a giant screen where it presented the technological developments that will redefine the aviation industry.

Electric air taxis – the next revolution in aviation

One of the most intriguing innovations presented is Delta’s investment in electric air taxis (eVTOL) – electric aircraft capable of vertical take-off and landing. Delta is collaborating with the start-up company Joby with the aim of allowing passengers quick access to the airports.

The air taxis are expected to significantly shorten the arrival time at the airport, taking into account environmental aspects thanks to the use of electric energy only. The tools are designed to provide a quiet and comfortable travel experience, suitable for both private passengers and commercial services.

However, the actual introduction of the service is still a long way off. The technological challenges include the development of the aircraft so that it can meet strict safety standards, while maintaining a sufficient carrying capacity for passengers and cargo. In addition, complex regulation must be dealt with, as aviation authorities in the United States and other countries require strict approval processes for drone systems. Delta is not alone in the race – other airlines such as United Airlines are investing in the field, but Delta’s optimism looks promising.

A personal assistant based on artificial intelligence

Using artificial intelligence, Delta aims to make trip planning simpler and more accessible. “Delta Concierge”, a personal assistant system based on generative technologies, will integrate a variety of personalized services into the Fly Delta application.

In a live demonstration, the system was shown accompanying a female passenger on a business trip to Tokyo. The service included ordering an air taxi to the airport, using smart glasses to receive updates on the security check, and even planning a taxi to the hotel upon arrival. In addition, the system allows tracking of the passenger’s points in the membership club.

Despite the great promise, Delta is taking a cautious approach in launching the system, with the goal of avoiding malfunctions. Examples of delays and problems caused by similar technologies in the past, such as those experienced by other airlines, reinforce the need for phased integration.

The in-flight entertainment experience is getting a significant upgrade: Delta has introduced new QLED technology seat screens with 4K HDR resolution, which will be integrated into all flight classes. The new screens will support Bluetooth headsets and offer customization options reserved for the passenger’s SkyMiles profile.

In addition, the company announced a collaboration with YouTube that will allow free access to video content without advertisements for members of its passenger club.
