Google continues to lead the search engine market, but registers a drop for the first time since 2015

The Seeker Google It leads global search engines but the third quarter of 2024 showed a slight drop, which placed it below the 90 percent share for the first time since 2015.

Google began 2024 with a market share of 91.43 percent, a figure that has progressively decreased month by month until falling below 90 percent in October, when it captured 89.34 percent of the market.

It is the first time since 2015 that Google Search is below 90 percent, according to data provided by Statista. Then, in the first quarter it registered quotas of 89.62 percent (January), 89.47 percent (February) and 89.52 percent (March). In April, it already reached 90.01 percent.

Although October 2024 reflects the decrease in market share, it is a data that is repeated in November (89.99%) and December (89.73%), which allows us to start talking about a trend.

Likewise, Google Search, although it has lost dominance, is still the market leader. In second place, and by far, is Microsoft’s Bing, which closed 2024 with 3.98 percent. They are followed by Yandex, with 2.55 percent, and Yahoo, with 1.29 percent.
