Alexa speaks in dialect for Local Languages ​​Day

On the occasion of National Dialect and Local Languages ​​Day, the Alexa voice assistant is enriched with a new feature: the ability to interact with users using some of the most well-known Italian dialects. This initiative represents an opportunity to enhance the country’s linguistic heritage and bring new generations closer to the richness and variety of regional dialects. Alexa is now able to express itself in different dialect variations, including Milanese, Neapolitan, Tuscan and Calabrian. To activate this feature, simply ask “Alexa, can you speak in dialect?”. The user can then specify the desired regional variant with questions such as “Can you speak Milanese?” or “Can you speak Tuscan?”.

Alexa’s answers are enriched with references to local culture, gastronomic traditions and symbolic places of the different regions. For example, to the Milanese Alexa will respond with a characteristic “And how is it, it’s like drinking a bianchin in Darsena: me ven natural!”, while with the Romans she will begin with a truthful “And of course, come on! It’s like running around Villa Borghese”. The variety of dialects supported by Alexa also includes Florentine, Roman, Neapolitan, Bolognese, Abruzzo, Foggia and Calabrian is designed to offer an authentic and engaging experience, guided by expressions and sayings typical of each region.
