Apple celebrates Black History Month with the new Black Unity Collection

Apple launched the Black Unity Collection, a series of special edition products to celebrate the Black History Month and the African American culture. The collection, inspired by the “rhythm of humanity”, includes a sport loop strap for Apple Watch, a dial and wallpapers for iPhone and iPad. The Sport Loop Black Unity strap, with a price of € 49, has a unique design with a weave of black, green and red threads that recall the Panafrican flag. The lenticular effect of stripes creates a chromatic dynamism that changes to every movement of the wrist. The rhythm of the unit, combined with the strap, comes alive thanks to the gyroscope integrated into the Apple Watch. By raising the wrist, the numbers, consisting of colored filaments, take shape from a series of abstract brush strokes. The dial also offers distinctive rhythmic signals at each hour and half an hour. The collection is completed by the rhythm backgrounds of the unit for iPhone and iPad, with the word “Unity” that changes orientation based on the state of the device.

The Black Unity Collection is the result of the collaboration of Apple creatives belonging to the black community. With this initiative, Apple reiterates its commitment to promoting economic, educational and creative opportunities in communities all over the world. To this end, the company will support several international organizations operating in the music, art and culture sectors, including the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music in New Orleans and the Battersea Arts Center in London. The Sport Loop Black Unity strap is available for purchase on the online Apple Store and in the Apple Store. The dial and the backgrounds will be available with a next software update. The rhythm of the unit requires an Apple Watch Series 6 or next and an iPhone XS or later. The backgrounds are compatible with iPhone XS or later and with different iPad models, including iPad Pro, iPad Air and iPad Mini.
