The South Korean regulator calls for explanations to Deepseek about personal data

The South Korean regulator in charge of protection of personal data will ask for explanations to the China Specialized Start-up ” DeepSeek about the treatment given to the information provided by its users, as France and Ireland have already done.

“We anticipate writing, as of Friday, a lawsuit to obtain information on how Deepseek is about personal data,” a person in charge of the South Korean Commission for the Protection of Personal Data told AFP.

South Korean technological giants such as Samsung Electronics and their rival SK Hynix are important suppliers of advanced microprocessors necessary for AI servers.

The arrival, a few days ago, of Deepseek’s R1 model surprised with its ability to do the same as its rivals but, according to the company, at a much smaller cost, and also shook financial markets.

On Thursday, the Italian regulator launched an investigation into the Depseek chatbot, who forbade italian users to treat. A measure that was taken after having received “totally insufficient” answers to your questions about the use of personal data.

France and Ireland also announced that they will ask for information from the Chinese company.

Tuesday, The Australian Minister of Industry and Science, manifestly worried, asked Chatbot users to be “very prudent.”

“There are many issues that will have to be answered about the quality, preferences of consumers, data management and private life,” said the minister, Ed Husic, to the National Chain ABC.
