Successfully isolated compounds that support cancer treatment from galangal

In the two-year study (2022-2024), scientists at the Institute of Chemistry, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology have been isolated and determined the structure of 7 compounds including 2 Flavone, 3 Flavanone and 2 chalcones, and distilled and determined the chemical composition of leaf essential oils and galangal roots in Vietnam. The research team tried the biological activity of the invitro of extracts and isolated cleanliness, including cytotoxic activity, anti -inflammatory, antioxidant and diabetes.

Scientists have built a process of creating preparations of 1kg of dry/batch material and prepared 58.4 g of preparations. Try the ability to inhibit the growth of the tumor of the preparation on the experimental mouse model showing the effect of inhibiting 25.72% of the tumor volume at the dose of 500 mg/kg body weight.

The team has built a basis for preparations and evaluated the effect of inhibiting tumor growth on tissue.

This is the first time the galangal tree in Vietnam has been studying chemical composition and biological activity contributing to effectively exploiting natural medicinal herbs into health care. The study was accepted by the Council for Excellent results.
