First exhibition in Europe of the Lucy skeleton, 3.18 million years old

Prague Lucy’s bone fragments, a human ancestor of 3.18 million seniority that barely left Ethiopia, will be exhibited for the first time in Europe this year in a Prague Museum, said Czech Prime Minister.

The remains of this Australopithecus afarensis They were discovered in Ethiopia in 1974. Then it was the most complete hominid ever found and revolutionized the understanding of human ancestors.

The fragments will be exhibited in the National Museum of Prague as part of the exhibition Human and fossil originswhich will begin on August 25 and last two months.

In his current state, Lucy has fossilized remains of the teeth, fragments of the skull, parts of the pelvis and the femur.

The last time that the fossil 1.1 meters high and 29 kilos of weight left Ethiopia was between 2007 and 2013, during a tour of several US museums.

His name comes from the Beatles song Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds that the team of researchers listened after the finding.

According to scientists, Lucy was already walked and would have died between 11 and 13 years, which in that species is already considered an adult period.
