The area that looks like the face emerging in the Cydonia of Mars is actually a special structure formed by erosion.

In 1976, the aircraft around the US viking 1 trajectory discovered unusual objects on the surface of Mars. Located between many protruding areas on the red planet surface is the structure that looks like a head, located in an area called Cydonia of Mars. However, according to scientists, this is actually an illusion. The lighting corner of the sun just covered the surface of the structure, according to IFL Science.
Despite some conspiracy theories that this is a vestige created by aliens, the spacecraft flew over the Cydonia area many times and proves that the face on Mars is just an interesting hill. Some extremely detailed photos of the area were taken in 2006 when the atmosphere was dust and fog. The hill looks like a face called Mesa, the structure is wide but not very high and has a flat peak. Its characteristics were confirmed in 2007 photos with a high -resolution scientific scientific camera (Hirise) on the aircraft around the Mars Reconnaissance.
Mesa is thought to be formed when sediments are eroded for a long time by wind, water or ice. Mars used to be wet in the past, most likely the ocean covered the Northern Hemisphere (including Cydonia), according to data from China’s robot. The mesa in Cydonia is rich in ice. A recent study of Mesa in the Chryse Planitia region shows that they contain clay, only formed when water interacts with rocks for a very long time.
According to Dr. Joe McNeil at the Museum of Natural History, the research results show that the Mars climate is significantly different in the past. The mounds in Chryse Planitia contain lots of clay minerals, which means liquid water that has existed in the surface in large quantities nearly 4 billion years ago. Rosalind Franklin self -propelled robot will explore the surrounding area, helping to answer the question of whether Mars own the ocean and whether life can exist there.
