Scientists discovered the largest underground hot lake in a cave in southern Albania, as confirmed from the new expedition. The research team from the Czech Republic first found the lake 4 years ago, but they did not have the right device to measure at that time, according to the Neuron Foundation notice, the research promotion organization of the houses. Czech science. Currently, the team announced that they had returned to the lake in 2024 with modern 3D scanner, confirming this largest groundwater area in the world, Live Science On 11/2 reported.

The group of scientists named the lake “Neuron” by the name of the funding organization for the recent expedition. The lake is 138 m long and 42 m wide. According to Marek Audy, the cave explorer directed both expeditions, the accurate scientific research and measurement is essential to publish this special finding.

Audy and his colleagues first discovered the lake while exploring the border between Albania and Greece, which had experienced political stress for more than a decade, thus restricting research. When exploring the area around the town of Leskovik in Albania, the team caught a huge steam column rising from the mountains. Test more carefully, they found it originated from more than 100 m deep.

The research team climbed into the pit and found the cave system spread, including a number of huge heat streams and lakes. “During the initial exploration, we created a basic map with the available equipment and immediately realized that we had a special discovery,” the photographer and member of the expedition is Richard Bouda for know.

Last year, with funding from Neuron Foundation, the team returned to the area with the Lidar scanner, a remote sensor device using laser to measure the distance and create a 3D model to map the detailed map of the lake. . The results revealed the reservoir 8,335 m3 of water, equivalent to 3.5 Olympic swimming pool.

Audy hopes he and his colleagues can return to Neuron Lake to study more carefully. The researchers found a smaller underground hot lake in Hungary in 2008 in the capital Bucharest.
