The actions of the Chinese car manufacturer BYD They rose strongly on Tuesday after revealing plans to incorporate autonomous driving technology into most of their cars, including a model valued by less than $ 10,000.
The company also said that it would use software from the Chinese artificial intelligence Deepseek in its cars, as did their competitors Geely, Great Wall Motors and Leapmotor.
Byd is Tesla’s main rival in China and increasingly also abroad.
Monday’s announcement led analysts to suggest that a new price war is coming.
Byd installed its autonomous driving system “Ojo de Dios” in at least 21 models, including the Seagull Hatchback that is sold at $ 9,550.
The system includes functions such as remote parking and autonomous browsing on highway that were previously in more expensive vehicles.
Tesla has similar functions in their cars valued at $ 32,000 or more.
“Autonomous management ceased to be something strange and distant, it is a (…) necessary tool,” said the founder of Byd, Wang Chuanfu, Monday at an event broadcast live.
He anticipated that this technology in the near future will be “an indispensable tool such as safety belts or airbags.”
The company said that Deepseek’s incorporation will help improve autonomous management technology.
The artificial intelligence firm was news in January when it presented a chatbot comparable to its US rivals for a cost fraction.
Byd’s shares rose 4.5% to a record level on the Hong Kong stock market, after climbing almost 20% in the days before the event on Monday.
