Egypt discovered the first pharaoh tomb after 100 years

This is the first time Egypt has discovered a pharaoh tomb since the tomb of King Tutankhamun was found in 1922, the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and antiques said on February 19. Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled, General Secretary of the Egyptian Supreme Antiquities Council, called the Mo ThuTmose II as one of the most important archaeological findings in recent years.

“I think this is an interesting finding, bringing a deep understanding of the history of the valley of the kings and nearby burial sites,” said Filip Taterka, Egyptian professor at the Geography Institute. Trung Hai and East of the Polish Academy of Sciences, commented.

Different from the tomb of King Tutankhamun, the tomb was found almost empty and no mummy. The archaeologist found that the tomb was flooded right after the burial of the thutmose II, so the burial item was moved to another place. “All the things inside the tomb have been relocated. The tomb is not stolen,” Piers Litherland, the Egyptian family at the University of Cambridge, co -leaders of the group discovered the tomb, said.

Archaeologists found the tomb for the first time in October 2022, but until the excavation season at the end of 2024 – early 2025, when analyzing the pieces of ceramic names named Thutmose II, they determined this was the tomb of the tomb of Pharaoh. “One of the labeled ceramic pieces shows that it contains Natron, the mixture used to mummify. This helps confirm that there was a burial ceremony that took place in the tomb,” Litherland said.

The tomb is about 29 m long and has a burial room of 5.3 mx 5.2 mx 3.4 m. There is a possibility of another tomb, where antiques were transferred after the tomb was originally flooded, but scientists have not yet found.

Some Egyptians believe that the mummy is buried in a basement in the nearby Deir El-Bahari area belonging to Thutmose II. But according to Litherland, this mummy may be too old (about 40 years old) compared to thutmose II. Therefore, his second mummy and tomb may still be in another secret place.

Currently, scientists know very little about the dynasty of ThuTmose II, according to the National Museum of Egyptian civilization. The time Mr. Tri Tri was still controversial, maybe less than 5 years, although some scholars believe that his dynasty was much longer. The Metropolitan Museum in New York City estimates that he ruled from about 1492 to 1479 BC.
