NVIDIA recognizes the distribution of some GPU RTX 5090 and RTX 5070 TI with less rendering units

NVIDIA has distributed some graphic units (GPU) of the GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5070 series with fewer rendering units (ROP) that they should have, which reduces their performance, although it states that it affects only 0.5 percent.

Some GPU GEFORCE RTX 5090, 5090D and 5070 TI have been distributed with a factory failure that directly affects their graphic performance, since they contain less rendering units than they should have.

For example, RTX 5090 Solid has 178 rendering units in its specifications, but the affected units have only 168 enabled, as indicated in the Techpowerup specialized portal.

Nvidia has recognized the problem. In a statement sent to The Verge, and collected by Europa Press, they say that it is “a rare problem that affects less than 0.5 % (half percent) of the GPU GeForce RTX 5090/5090D and 5070 TI” .

Although they have less rop of those specified, “the average impact on graphic performance is 4%, without impact on AI and computing workloads,” they say. However, Nvidia has corrected the production anomaly and will offer a replacement to users of their affected graphics cards.
