Cell phones with the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor will have 8 years of support

A new program will allow manufacturers of ‘smartphones’ Android to extend the support of both ‘software’ and security for “eight consecutive years”, “one of the longest support windows available in the industry”, as Qalcomm has pointed out in A statement.

To obtain these updates it will be necessary to update the Kernel controllers -the operating system core -and two will be distributed during the period of eight years announced.

This does be dispensed with the important changes and updates on the platform and in the device code, that is, the modifications of the manufacturers that ensure compatibility. In this way, it is possible to facilitate updates with a lower cost and for a longer time.

The program will be first compatible with the devices that work with the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor – presented in October last year – and the Android 15 operating system, and the end of the year will be extended to the new launch mobiles that have a series of the series Snapdragon 8 and Snapdragon 7.

Although it seeks to carry the support of ‘software’ extended to all compatible ‘smartphones’, Qualcomm has clarified that the decision that a device can benefit from it depends on the manufacturer.
