Fable’s return to Xbox was postponed to 2026

Xbox Game Studios and the Playground Games and Eidos Montreal developers postponed the launch of Fable from expected 2025 to 2026. The decision was communicated by Craig Duncan, head of Xbox Game Studios, during the last official Xbox Podcast. Duncan has expressed confidence in development progress, underlining the intention of granting the additional time project to guarantee a high quality final product. He then highlighted the proven experience of Playground Games, citing the success of the Forza Horizon series, and expressed high expectations for their interpretation of Fable. He referred to visual quality, gameplay and British humor, distinctive elements of the study, which will characterize their version of Albion. The decision to postpone the release date was motivated by the desire to ensure that the game responds to the expectations of the community and to provide the development team with the resources necessary to achieve their vision.

“I have an unequivocal trust in the playground team. If we think about their history and legacy with Forza Horizon, the last two games have been acclaimed by critics, rewarded, beautiful and with an excellent gameplay,” said Duncan. “And thinking about what they are leading to Fable as a franchise, imagine the visual quality that is expected from Playground Games, combined with an extraordinary gameplay, British humor, the version of Albion of playground, inspired by what has been done previously With the franchise, but with their interpretation. Enthusiastic about the plans and the future, and I want the community to understand that we do these things for the good of the games, of the teams and, ultimately, to obtain the best games, or the best game, for the community “.
