An American report reveals that China is the main producer of scientific articles on semiconductors, overcoming the United States and Europe, and dominates in the most influential research
A recent report from the US Think Tank Emerging Technology Observatory at Georgetown University has revealed that Chinese researchers have produced a significantly greater number of scientific articles on the design and manufacture of chips than any other country. The analysis of 475,000 articles in English published between 2018 and 2023 highlighted China’s leadership position in the sector.
The report noted that China represented 34%of all semiconductors research publications, followed by the European nations (18%) and the United States (15%). This figure highlights a significant gap in the scientific production between China and the other technological powers. In addition, the report showed that Half of the most influential studies, namely those that fall within 10% more mentioned, were carried out by authors of Chinese institutions. In comparison, the US teams contributed to 22% of the most influential studies, while European collaborators at 17%.
