American satellite photographed 5 tropical storms at sea at the same time

The photo of a part of the Indian and Southern Pacific part was taken by NOAA-20 environment satellite on February 26. In the South Pacific, Typhoon Alfred and Seru swirled off Australia, while the Indian Ocean was suffering from Honde, Garance and Bianca. The appearance of so many storms at the same time is very rare but not never existed, according to NASA. Meteorologists believe that the cause of the sea surface temperature is warm and the wind conditions are weak.

“The heat on the sea lasts long off the west of Australia from September 2024 and the other high sea surface temperature often warms the region at the end of February 2025. For the South Pacific, the Australian Meteorological Department predicts the possibility of tropical storms higher than the average this season due to the warm ocean temperature as expected.

The storm photo series was created with Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) of NOAA-20, which can measure a series of environmental characteristics. NASA explains that the pink signal is very useful in distinguishing cooler cloud structure (white and purple) with a warmer surface below (yellow and orange).

In the South Pacific region, storm Seru reaches level 1 strength (wind 119 – 152 km/h) in a short time, and storm Alfred is located at level 2 (154 – 177 km/h) at the time of NOAA -20 photography, although it increases to level 4 (209 – 251 km/h) the next day. Both storms are offshore although Alfred comes with a warning of dangerous conditions along the coastal area of ​​Queensland. The third tropical storm named Rae is also moving to East Australia, outside the edge of the photo and weakened after causing heavy rain in Fiji.

At the other end of Australia, Bianca is also weaker after reaching high school (wind 178 – 208 km/h) on the previous day, although far away off the coast, it did not affect the mainland Australia or the communities on the nearby island. However, elsewhere in the Indian Ocean, storms have a great impact. Mauritius Island was forced to close the airport on February 26 when storm Garance approached, the wind reached level 2 and increased to high school the next day. Meanwhile, hurricane Honde is facing southern Madagascar, with the wind maintaining 119 km/h.
