The male octopus poisoned the partner to avoid eating meat

A bite containing venom from males is the risk that the blue border is faced in the reproductive effort. Although the female produces the same nerve toxin, Tetrodotoxin (TTX) like males, that does not mean that they are immune to the effect of compounds, according to IFL Science.

Some animals (such as mantis and spiders) specialize in eating partner meat, in which the female eat male meat after mating because it needs a large amount of nutrients to give birth. Chung’s group has never witnessed this, but their samples are quite small (6 pairs) because males are difficult to catch in the wild.
