Alexa Plus, what are the devices compatible with the new Amazon assistant

Once the preview phase is finished, Alexa+ will be available on a larger range of devices, including most Echo devices, Fire TV devices, all Fire tablets. Alexa+ will also be available on the web and through the Alexa app on smartphones. Some first generation Echo models, such as Echo Dot (1st Gen.), Echo (1st Gen.) and Echo Show (1st Gen.), will not support Alexa+. In addition, at the time of launch, the devices with third -party integrated Alexa, such as the Sonos speakers or the Ecobee intelligent thermostat, will not be compatible. However, Amazon has hinted that compatibility with these devices could be introduced in the future.

It is important to emphasize that the classic version of Alexa will continue to work on devices not compatible with Alexa+ and will remain available, at least for the moment, also on compatible devices. Users will have the opportunity to choose which version to use, allowing a gradual transition to the new experience or maintenance of the favorite features of the previous version, especially in consideration of the fact that not all “skills” will be transferred to Alexa+.

To access the preview of Alexa+, US users owners of a compatible echo show will have to register through a dedicated page on the Amazon website. Once the request has been approved, they will receive an email notification and on their Echo devices. Initially, Alexa+ will be available for free during the advance access phase, but then it will require a subscription (probably paid for monthly, even if the inclusion in the Amazon Prime subscription is assumed).

The adoption of generative artificial intelligence represents a significant leap in quality for Alexa+. This translates into a greater ability to understand natural language, in the storage of user preferences, in the reactivity to the emotions expressed vocally and in the possibility of supporting more fluid and articulated conversations, eliminating the need to continually repeat the word of activation “Alexa”. In addition, Alexa+ will be able to process multiple controls simultaneously and perform more complex activities, such as ordering shopping or booking a table at the restaurant.
