From wood fibers and corn an ecological and effective detergent

A Eco -friendly detergent Made of tiny wooden fibers and corn proteins that removes stains from clothes exactly like the products currently on the market. This is what a research team led by the Tianjin University of Science and Technology, which published its results on Langmuir.

Composition and operation

The researchers combined nanofibre of cellulose from wood with protein whose of the corn to create an emulsion. Cellulose can attract and reject water, therefore it is effective in forming these emulsions and attracting different types of spots. The zeal protein, on the other hand, helps to stabilize emulsion and trap the oils.

Cleaning test

The authors then tested the cleaning capacity of the cellulose/zeal detergent on cotton fabrics and stained dishes with ink, chilli oil and tomato concentrate. They compared the performance of their new detergent with laundry detergents and commonly available dishes, using deionized water.

Results

The cellulose/zeal detergent was slightly less effective in cleaning the cotton fabric than a commercial powder solution for laundry of equal dilution (1% of detergent or weight dust). At a 5% concentration, however, the researchers’ product was more effective than the 1% dust solution in cleaning each of the spots from the fabric.

The microscopic examination showed that the cellulose/zeal detergent did not leave residues on cotton fabric After washing and rinsing, which suggests that it would not damage the fabric. The researchers also tested the ability of their detergent to remove pepper oil stains from ceramic dishes, stainless steel, glass and plastic.

Again, the cellulose/zeal detergent has cleaned almost as well as the detergent for commercial dishes of equal dilution and, at a concentration of 5%, the product of scholars was higher. On stainless steel plates, for example, a 5% cellulose/zeal solution removed 92% of the stain compared to 87% with a 1% solution for commercial dishes.
