The first national workshop “Artificial intelligence and public transport: the experiences of the TPL companies”, organized by Asstra, the association that represents
150 local public transport companies in Italy.
The event brought together experts, representatives of the main companies in the sector and institutions to take stock of the potential of artificial intelligence (IA) and its application to revolutionize local public transport (TPL). It is part of the support activities that AssTra provides the associated companies, currently engaged in a significant
digital and energy transformation processaccelerated by
PNRR opportunities.
During the works,
Andrea Gibelli, president of Asstra, He underlined how the IA is revolutionizing the mobility paradigm intervening on crucial areas, including autonomous vehicles, the relationship between mobility and the city, the D systems
Intelligent tplroad safety and freight logistics.
“The integration between public and private transport in a single system is our goal, but balanced regulation is essential to support innovation,” said Gibelli. Mario Nobile, general manager of Agid, highlighted the need to simplify bureaucracy and work on training to strengthen skills, proposing
tax incentives for private investments in training and technology.
“We must make the adoption of digital solutions easier, with a direct deductibility of the expenses for the purchase of products/digital services and for training,” he suggested.
Giorgio Pizzi, manager of
TPL General Management of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT)dealt with the theme of
governance algoritmica By underlining how the IA can improve multimodal services and personalize the user experience, but “transparency and responsibility are essential when we talk about IA in public services,” said Pizzi.
Numerous exponents of the main Italian realities protagonists in the TPL have illustrated practical projects and applications of the AI who, already today, are revolutionizing the sector, with solid development prospects for the future. Francesca Pili, executive administrator of FNM, presented the
Catenary Inspection Systema system based on the AI who
allows you to monitor and anticipate faults on the electrified lines,
reducing maintenance costs: “This system increases the reliability and safety of the service,” said Pili.
Francesca Quiri, communication manager of
Brescia Mobility, He spoke of the IACC project (artificial intelligence for Customer Care), which thanks to the use of
Chatbot and data analysis, It provides for a 20% reduction in the working load in Customer Care by 2025.
Pasquale Rovito, innovation manager & research by Autonomo Volturno (EAV) of Naples, illustrated the Mercury project, a solution for the
predictive maintenance of the railways developed in collaboration with the aerospace district. “The IA allows us to anticipate faults and optimize the punctuality of the service,” explained Rovaito.
Fabio Gregorio, Innovation manager
AMT Genova TPL services and technologiespresented the Smart Stop and Mario projects, which improve the efficiency of the stops and maintenance. In fact, Italian companies are making great progress in the application of the AI for maintenance and customer care. Andrea Bottazzi, manager responsible for the
Automotive maintenance of Tper Bologna, He explained how the IA allows to reduce the detention times of the vehicles, optimizing maintenance policies. Michele Scozzai, communication manager and Customer Care of Tpl Fvg, spoke of the implementation of an advanced CRM system that improves efficiency in managing customer requests. The international experience was brought by Rebecca Bissell, director of information technology of Transport for London (TFL), who shared how
IA is improving safety in public transportallowing u
na management
more efficient than emergencies and greater protection for passengers. Another international testimony has come from San Francisco.
The security of data and systems was at the center of Tas Jalali’s interventions, Head of Cybersecurity & IT PMO of AC Transit, which illustrated the pragmatic method with which the company adopted the IA to intervene on individual problems. Finally, Alberto Rho, a lawyer of the Zoppilate & Associati law firm, dealt with the legal implications of the AI, in particular the regulations related to the GDPR and the Act. “Human supervision is essential to guarantee ethical and responsible use of the AI”, concluded Rho.
The workshop ended with the commitment of ASSTRA to promote a clear and shared Roadmap for the adoption of the AI in local public transport, guaranteeing innovation and balanced regulation.
“The adoption of the AI is fundamental To intercept the future and respond to the emerging needs of people and cities. Today we must decide what companies we want to be fiery., Said Gibelli.
