About a week after the presentation Nintendo Direct scheduled for April 2, new rumors emerge regarding the launch and the software distribution strategy of the Nintendo Switch 2 console. Sources of Insider Gaming, mentioned following conversations that took place during the San Francisco GDC, suggest that the launch of the new platform could take place in June. This timing would recall the strategy adopted for the launch of the first Nintendo Switch, although the release of a main console in June represents a relatively rare event, with a precedent only in the launch of the Nintendo 64 in Japan.
The disclosed information outlines a software distribution plan divided into three phases. The initial phase, coinciding with the launch of the console, would be characterized by a priority reserved for Nintendo’s First-Party titles. Subsequently, a second phase, scheduled for October/November, would see the publication of third -party titles. Finally, the third phase would focus on the Christmas period, with the aim of maximizing sales through the release of important securities both by Nintendo and of third publishers. The analysis of these rumors highlights elements of plausibility, while lifting some doubts: the hypothesis of a launch of the console without third parties titles appears not very convincing.
On the other hand, the development structure for Switch 2 may be simplified compared to previous generations, making it possible to delayed a delayed distribution of development kits. Recent declarations of developers confirm, however, that even prominent figures in the sector have not yet received such kits. Regardless of the timing and the strategies adopted, Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to host a diversified catalog of games, including qualifications of important developers and independent studies. The distribution of these titles, both at launch and in subsequent stages, will determine the success of the new platform.
