In the video, the Atlas robot made many complex movements skillfully such as walking, running, crawling, squatting, acrobatics, even breakdance dance – a street jumping style of Hip -hop culture created by the African -American community in the 1970s.

Atlas’s new capabilities are developed using enhanced learning with reference from cartoon technology and motion recording (motion capture, or mocap) – techniques used in the film industry and developing video games, Boston Dynamics said. First, humans will perform complex movements in the mocap suit, then the robot will repeat them.

Atlas achieved this impressive result about a month after Boston Dynamics announced cooperation with the Institute of Robot and Artificial Intelligence (Rai Institute), focusing on enhanced projects to upgrade human -shaped robots. This cooperation aims to convert simulation based on movement into physical performances, improve the ability to control the whole body and promote measures to take advantage of the entire body of the robot.

At that time, Boston Dynamics said they would periodically announce the update information about the cooperation process, including publications and performances with Atlas. The video of March 19 seems to be the first update information, showing the impressive ability of the robot.

Boston Dynamics describes the latest version of Atlas as one of the most advanced human -shaped robots ever made, and adds that the robot is now stronger, more skillful, more agile, and can even move in ways beyond human capabilities. The company is aiming to make Atlas suitable for production situations, helping to perform normal tasks in a more efficient way, release labor and create conditions for people to do more meaningful jobs.
