Collaborate with Duc Rwe Energy Group and Chinese photovoltaic battery module JA SOLAR, Borussia Dortmund will install large -scale solar energy systems on the roof of Signal Iduna Park Stadium, Interesting Engineering On March 28 reported.

“With Ja Solar’s modules, expected to provide energy for the largest solar system on the stadium roof, we are laying the foundation for a more environmentally friendly future,” said Carsten Cramer, CEO of Borussia Dortmund.

The club will complete this ambitious project in the late summer of 2025, marking an important step towards sustainable sports activities. The new system is expected to produce more than 4 meters of electricity per year, enough to provide energy for stadium lights in 1,000 matches.

Borussia Dortmund intends to use the entire electricity generated in place, significantly reducing CO2 emissions, estimated at 1,800 tons per year. To enhance energy efficiency, the stadium will integrate a 3.4 MWH storage battery system, ensuring a stable and reliable power supply.

“The solar cell system on the stadium will provide enough green electricity to meet the club’s electricity demand in all Bundesliga matches, the German National Cup (DFB-Pokal) and the Champions’ League at home in a year.

The cooperation between Rwe and Borussia Dortmund does not stop at the stadium roof. A solar power system with more than 200 modules has just been installed on the roof of the club’s fan area, near the stadium, contributing to reducing energy costs.

The solar power system on the roof of the Signal Iduna Park stadium also shows the flexibility of the Ja Solar solar cell modules. Although often used in residential areas, this module is also suitable for large -scale commercial applications. “The Borussia Dortmund project proves that this module – and other products from the diverse category of Ja Solar – are also suitable for commercial roofs,” Ja Solar emphasized.

Turning Signal Iduna Park into a green energy center can inspire many other sports organizations in the world. “We believe that Borussia Dortmund and Ja Solar shared many common values, and is really proud when our modules are used for the project at this iconic stadium,” Henning Schulze, Vice President Ja Solar, shared.
