From pilot to tenant: The man who converted a Boeing 727 into his house

According to CNBC, an idea arose in the 90s, when Campbell knew that a commercial plane, produced between 1962 and 1984, could be bought and reused. He decided to acquire the old plane for about $ 100,000 and transfer it (he had to disassemble the ship and transported in truck) to a land of his property, where the transformation process began.

Although the interior maintains many of its original components, such as seats and emergency lights, Campbell adapted the space with basic services: bathroom, shower, improvised kitchen and electrical connection. The ship is surrounded by trees and away from urban bustle, which turns its home into a peculiarly quiet site.

For the engineer, living in an plane is not only an eccentricity, but a way of giving new life to structures designed to last. He defends that commercial aircraft fuselages are much more resistant than a conventional house and could become a viable alternative for sustainable homes.
