Nintendo Switch 2 will launch on June 5 with improvements in performance and new game functionalities such as GameChat

Nintendo has officially presented its new Nintendo Switch 2 game console, a redesigned version of the hybrid model between desktop and laptop console, which will arrive on June 5 globally and that has improvements in performance and new game functionalities, such as the mouse mode for the controls and game options with GameChat friends.

The Japanese company has announced all the characteristics of its new ‘hardware’ within the framework of a new Nintendo Direct, in which it has stressed that it is a “from scratch” redesign, in which they have included various new functions that improve the game experience.

As for its design, the new console has a larger size compared to the original Nintendo Switch, with a screen that becomes 7.9 inches (instead of the 6.2 of the previous version), although it maintains the thickness of 13.9mm.

Thus, the screen has improved to offer high -definition images with a 1080P LCD panel, which will allow players to enjoy video games in more detail in the images. In addition, the images will be shown fluently with a frequency of 120fps and HDR compatibility, which offers greater contrast between the clear and dark areas of the images.

Nintendo has also renewed the controls of the Nintendo Switch 2, which now become Joy-Con 2 and that, in addition to having a larger size, are coupled to the console through a magnetic system composed of “powerful magnets” that create a circuit that keeps them safely fixed. Thus, as the company explained, to decoupling the controls, it will be enough to hold the extraction button located in the rear.

Likewise, the SL and SR buttons of the controls also have a larger size, so that it is easier and more comfortable to play with a Joy-Con control in horizontal. Following this line, another novelty that the controls present is the mouse mode, which allow us to use these controllers such as a computer mouse, sliding the part with which they join the console on a flat surface.

The design of the Joy-Con 2 is less colorful than in the previous generation, since they are black and only a touch of color has been added around the ‘joystick’ and in the union with the console, keeping the blue for the left and red control for the right.

In addition, the new Switch 2 also adds a handle on the back to facilitate the inclination with a broader movement range than in the previous version. It is also equipped with an additional USB-C port located at the top of the device, with which users can connect other elements, as well as load the console in the desktop mode.

Nintendo has also added greater capacity and storage speed to its new ‘hardware’, with 256GB of internal memory, which translates into 8 times more memory than the original Nintendo Switch (32GB). This allows you to store more downloaded games and save data. Likewise, data reading and recording speed has also been increased.

On the other hand, the new base for the Nintendo Switch 2 is compatible to show content on TV with up to 4K in compatible games, in addition, it is also compatible with the HDR. In addition, it integrates a fan to regulate the temperature of the console when it is located at the base, which helps maintain its operation with high performance.

GAMECHAT

In addition to all this, Nintendo has underlined the new GameChat game function, which can be accessed from the new ‘C’ button integrated into the Joy-Con 2 Right.

This new feature allows users to communicate with family and friends while playing in the console, through an integrated chat function, which is accompanied by a new microphone integrated in the upper area of the console, capable of recognizing the voice of the players, even from distant areas.

This microphone integrates noise cancellation technology, so it will capture only the user’s voice eliminating the background noises, so that it is clearly heard. Likewise, with the integrated speakers, players can listen to the comments of the users with whom they are connected through Gamechat.

In this way, by pressing the ‘C’ button, the chat configuration options are activated, with the possibilities of sharing screen to show the games that are being executed, without the need for the same titles to which the other connected users play.

Likewise, this GameChat function will connect a new camera for Nintendo Switch 2, with which the image of users will be integrated into the game’s own experience and share it with connected friends and family.

However, to be able to use GameChat, users must be subscribed to the Nintendo Switch Online service.

Game compatibility

Nintendo has also pointed out that the new console will admit both exclusive Nintendo Switch 2 titles and Nintendo Switch titles, whether in physical or digital format. Thus, the physical game cards for the new console are of the same size as those of Nintendo Switch, however, they are designed in red and their data reading speed is “much larger.”

Regarding additional storage, the new console will only be compatible with MicroSD Express cards. That is, a different type of SD card that allows you to transmit data at high speed, with manufacturers such as Samsung or Sandisk. Therefore, the classic microSD cards used by the Nintendo Switch are not compatible.

Nintendo has also explained that, to transfer data from the original console to the new version, users can log in to their Nintendo account and use the transfer function between consoles. In this way, save data and digital games will be transferred directly.

New Nintendo Pro command

The company has also advanced that it will launch an EUVo Pro Nintendo Switch 2, which also includes the C. Also, new GR and GL buttons have been incorporated in the back, which are configurable to add functions that are carried out with other buttons.

With all this, the new Nintendo Switch 2 can be acquired from next Saturday, June 5 at the global level.
